One of the things that you will learn about at our upcoming Visible Green Home® Earth Day Celebration Tour of BURH BECC at BEACON SPRINGS on April 25th will be our use of TROMBE Walls. A Trombe wall is a passive solar heating system consisting of a masonry wall covered with a dark selective surface designed to absorb over 95% of the incident solar energy while re-radiating only 5%. This is then covered on the exterior by a layer of glass with a small air gap in between creating a greenhouse effect. Named after French engineer Félix Trombe, who popularized the design in the 1960s, it functions as a “solar collector” that absorbs heat during the day and slowly releases it into a building at night.
