We stood on our vacant property with Michael full of expectation and possibility. What would a house, our house looks like here? In those exciting minutes Michael was able to deliver several quick sketches that gave us a very real visual image of what our house would look like on this setting. It was amazing that he wasn’t just sketching his ideas but our ideas and dreams that he had been listening to, then given form to those ideas. We could then imagine together the real visual possibilities.

We needed to work within a budget, Mike was aware of the bottom line and was appropriately vigilant throughout the design process. Whenever our design ideas would appear too costly for our budget Mike would let us know and provide more cost-effective alternatives that would fit into our design scheme.

As Mike got to know us through the year that we worked with him, he could begin to anticipate the needs that were driving our design expectations. We quickly reached a point where we were working as a cohesive group of three rather than one architect and two clients.

As the design process evolved problems would inevitably arise.  Mike approached these problems as challenges and opportunities. He proved to be tenacious and very creative in providing solutions

Our home has exceeded our expectations. All the time and effort that went into the design phase has really paid off. Michael’s construction documents, the final drawings and appended instructions were so complete that very little room was left for confusion or interpretation by our builder.

When it came time to choose a builder Mike, through his relationships with colleagues, found five to interview, all of whom seemed to fit our budget and quality criteria. The final choice of the right builder was of course ours, but Michael’s comments were always highly valued. Our decision was made, and Mike moved forward to forge a very effective work3ng relationship with the builder.

The contractual relationship with Mike ended, of course, upon completion of the house, but his involvement with its design hasn’t. He has continued to make himself available for comment on minor changes being made to turn our house into our home.

We hope these will be helpful additions to your portfolio. If we can be of further assistance, please let us know.
