Following up on our earlier post celebrating our most recent award-winning project, Harvey and Kay’s “Pleasant Future Vision” PHIUS+ Zero certified passive house home, we continue to take you behind the scenes revealing some of the high performance assemblies employed on this amazing project. In this post we are bringing the building envelope exploration to the envelope drainage plane. It may surprise you to learn this but your siding is not what is keeping you dry. The siding is the first line of defense against water intrusion that is true, however all siding systems leak (yes, even so called ‘face sealed’ systems), the question is to what degree do they leak and how are you going to manage the water when they do eventually leak. In this home we used a simple, sheet-applied, self-draining, three-dimensional, pressure-equalized rain screen assembly installed behind the siding and directly over the top of a continuous water control layer drainage plane. So when this siding leaks it’s a non-issue. Don’t worry siding, we’ve got your “back”! Learn more here: https://bit.ly/43d6seg
