One of the compelling features of our ‘Prairie Passive’ PHIUS® certified Passive House on tour at the Builder’s and Remodelers Association of Greater Ann Arbor’s Showcase of Homes event Saturday and Sunday, June 27th and 28th is the unique roof form.   Extending upward and outward the deep overhangs are not only a compelling and dynamic architectural feature, but they are also a component of the home’s high-performance energy management system.  Carefully tuned, the roof edge extension have been energy modeled and specifically ‘tuned’ based on incident sun angles to reduce over heating in the summer and enhance solar capture in the winter.  Incredible… it’s as if it was planned 🙂
