I was fortunate enough to attend one of Michael’s presentations on the green home concept in Ann Arbor, Michigan. I was impressed with his intelligence, his passion for architecture and his ability to communicate design principles in language that a layperson could understand. When I decided that it was time to do a rebuild of my existing home, in Columbus, Ohio, I chose Michael and his team at Architectural Resource.

I should say at the outset that the fact that my home was not in Michigan was not a barrier in working with Architectural Resource. Michael and his team spent a great deal of time identifying my goals for the project in both in-person meetings and on the telephone. They are also adept at using electronic tools and used an extensive questionnaire to help me identify my goals for the project.

After reviewing my goals, Michael and his colleagues discussed them with me at great length and explained how individuals interact with the space in their home as the years pass. I was able to clarify my goals after my discussions with them. Because we started with a clear set of goals that guided the project, I believe the end result was an even more beautiful and comfortable house.

I identified three basic goals for my rebuild: bringing more light into the house and preserving the view, making the lower level of the house more usable, and making it easier for me to access the outdoor porch. Michael and his team met all of these goals and surpassed my expectations. They came up with the idea of raising the roof line and as a result, the house is bathed in light and the view is even more spectacular. Moreover, it greatly improved the beauty and comfort of the outdoor porch. A simple change in the way the downstairs staircase is accessed achieved my goal of making it easier to use the downstairs. Again, increasing the glass in the family room and using a bigger door made the outdoor porch much more accessible.  These were ideas that I do not think could have been achieved without the thoughtfulness, attention to detail, and dedication to client goals exemplified by the team at Architectural Resource.

Michael and his colleagues also worked seamlessly with the builder and designer I selected although they had not worked with them before. Both the builder and designer commented throughout the rebuild how easy it was to work with Architectural Resource.

I appreciated the flexibility of Michael’s team of professionals at Architectural Resource and their willingness to listen to ideas about changes as we began the process. They were always responsive with new drawings and additional ideas.

Obviously, Architectural Resource is well known for its expertise in energy efficient design. While I was interested in energy efficiency, it was not my first priority. Nonetheless, the house is now very energy efficient in all aspects. Moreover, I recently noted how solid and tight the house felt during a bitter winter storm. I am certain that the designs produced by Michael and his team will result in great energy savings over the years.

As a result of the great professional skill and attentiveness to my project shown by every professional at Architectural Resource, I now have a redesigned home that exceeds all of my goals.
